    Description

    An atmospheric Scandinavian coastal painting by Swedish artist Carl Berndtsson, depicting a collection of traditional fishing boats drawn ashore beneath an expansive, windswept sky. Painted with expressive, heavily textured brushstrokes, the composition is brought to life through a restrained palette of slate grey, muted blue, soft ochre and dusty rose.

    The angular forms of the boats create an almost abstract quality, while glimpses of breaking waves beyond evoke the rugged character and changing weather of the Nordic coastline. The prominent dark hull forms a striking focal point, giving the composition a strong sense of depth and sculptural presence.

    With its beautifully subdued palette, rich impasto and timeless maritime subject, the painting would sit particularly well within Scandinavian, mid-century modern or contemporary interiors.

    Presented in its original slim silver-toned frame, this authentic vintage oil painting offers both decorative appeal and the distinctive character of expressive Swedish coastal art.

    Condition

    Very good vintage condition with light age-related surface wear and some surface dirt consistent with its age. The canvas appears sound and remains well stretched, with no obvious tears or significant areas of paint loss. Signed by the artist to the lower right, with the artist’s name and title inscribed to the reverse. Ready to hang in its existing frame.

    *Please note that all paintings have had previous lives and may be in an antiqued / worn condition. Signs of wear and minor damage are to be expected, as they contribute to each painting’s unique character and history.
