Artist: Carl Berndtsson (1902-1983)

Date: Mid-20th Century (circa 1950s-1970s)

Size: Approximately 67 x 47 cm framed

A beautifully expressive woodland scene painted in oils on canvas, depicting a stand of trees rendered with loose, confident brushwork and a harmonious palette of soft greens, blues and muted earth tones. The artist captures the quiet atmosphere of a Scandinavian forest, using light and colour to create depth and movement throughout the composition.

The painting displays strong painterly qualities, with visible texture and layered brushstrokes that give the work a lively, impressionistic character. The cool tones of the trees contrast beautifully with the warm reddish woodland floor, creating a striking yet calming visual effect.

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Presented in a gilt frame and ready to hang.

Carl Berndtsson (1902-1983) was a Swedish painter known for his landscapes and natural scenes. His works regularly appear at Scandinavian auction houses and are appreciated for their atmospheric treatment of the Nordic landscape.

Condition

Good vintage condition. The canvas is secure on its stretcher and the paint surface displays attractive age-related character consistent with a mid-century oil painting. The frame shows minor wear commensurate with age.
