A beautifully atmospheric mid-century oil painting by Swedish artist Eskil Skans, depicting a rugged coastal landscape with a lone fishing boat gliding across calm blue waters beyond a foreground of sunlit granite rocks and wild coastal flowers. Painted with a restrained Scandinavian palette of soft blues, warm greys and earthy ochres, the composition perfectly captures the tranquil beauty of the Nordic shoreline.

Executed in a confident impressionistic style, Skans employs expressive brushwork and subtle tonal shifts to create depth, light and atmosphere throughout the scene. The textured rock formations contrast beautifully with the smooth expanse of sea and sky, while delicate accents of crimson and lavender wildflowers bring warmth and vibrancy to the foreground. The distant fishing boat provides a gentle focal point, enhancing the painting’s sense of scale and peaceful isolation.

Signed lower right, the work is presented in its original period frame, which complements the painting’s muted colour palette and authentic mid-century Scandinavian character.
