Woodland Sheep Grazing | Oil on Canvas Painting

Artist: Sigurd Möller (1895-1984)

Origin: Sweden

Date: 1956

Size: Approximately 64 x 76 cm framed (59 x 72 cm image size)

A beautifully atmospheric Scandinavian landscape painted in oils on canvas, depicting a group of sheep grazing beneath a stand of mature trees. Executed with expressive brushwork and a harmonious palette of cool blues, soft greys and muted earth tones, the composition captures the tranquil character of the Nordic countryside.

The painting demonstrates Möller’s confident handling of colour and form, with broad, textured brushstrokes creating movement throughout the scene. The pale tree trunks provide a striking structural framework, while the subtle interplay of light and shadow lends depth and atmosphere to the woodland setting. The sheep, quietly grazing beneath the trees, add a gentle narrative element and reinforce the peaceful rural mood.

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right, “S. Möller -56”. Presented in a gilt frame and ready to hang.

Condition

Good vintage condition. The canvas is secure and the paint surface is well preserved, displaying attractive texture and age-related character consistent with a mid-century oil painting. The frame shows minor wear commensurate with age.

*Please note that all paintings have had previous lives and may be in an antiqued / worn condition. Signs of wear and minor damage are to be expected, as they contribute to each painting’s unique character and history.
